WHAT IS ISO 22196?
ISO 22196 is the standard measurement of antibacterial activity on plastics and other surfaces. The ISO 22196 was created to give the general public confidence in the antimicrobial products on the market. The tests carried out are in a safe and controlled environment meaning any bacteria used can be disposed of in a safe manner at no risk to the public. This means that the public can have confidence in products with this ISO number without the need to carry out potentially dangerous experiments themselves.
HOW IS ISO 22196 TESTED?
Under strict lab conditions, bacteria are introduced to the components for testing. They are then covered with sterile film and left for 24 hours at a humid 35°C. Each component is then examined and compared to a control sample to assess the efficacy of the antimicrobial treatment. Where effective, components are granted the ISO 22196 rating.
SILVER IONS
Silver Ion-based antimicrobial additive is introduced during the manufacturing process giving the device permanent antibacterial protection. These Silver Ions inhibit the bacteria's ability to grow and reproduce on the phones surface eventually killing 99.9% over a 24 hour period.
